Backwater Angler - A fishing report from a flyshop along the Gunpowder River

Low water, a bald eagle, a few Olives and some sipping fish greeted me at Masemore this morning.Mine was the only car in the lot and the dogs had a nice run-leashed of course-- along the exposed gravel downstream of bush cabin run. The water temp is 52 F and we'll see more of this "bony" water for awhile. The fish don't seem to mind and they're a few weeks away from spawning so try a few dries in the next few days. Small caddis, Bwo's and traditional streamers are still very productive.

Just in case anybody turns it in, I lost a fly box on the lower part of Little Falls on Wednesday ~ a Morell 3-1/4 x 5" white foam, with labels on the front and spine that say "OLIVES". At least 60 flies in it, mostly split wing duns, but some of just about every
pattern.
Other than that, it was a super day. Fished up from just above the junction to the second bike trail bridge above Wilson Road.
Landed at least twelve browns, including four or five beautifully colored ones in the 10 - 12" range. A #18 olive comparadun on the flats, a #8 Micky Finn in the pools, and a #14 elk hair caddis
in the runs did the trick.

Fished from 8:30 to 1:p.m. what a great day,caught
5 fish , One 17" brown. used hares ears in a.m.,used
small caddis in afternoon.Water was low.I used a 3 wt
   with a 10' leader 6x and 2' 7x tippet.I always call the
   shop for info before coming down, I think your shop
   is the best.
